Mindy Nelson, M.S.W.

Hi, I'm the full-time guidance counselor at our school. I've been at Jeremy Ranch ever since it opened in 1994 and I love my job! My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education and I also have a Masters Degree in Social Work. My job description at Jeremy is very diverse. It involves teaching a preventative "guidance curriculum" (healthy lifestyles) about once every other week in each class, working on our RtI committee for struggling students, counseling and supporting children with emotional or behavioral needs either individually or in small pull-out groups, supporting parents and teachers, planning school-wide events to address the social and emotional needs of the students, supervising 5th grade "spirit kids," and you name it....a million other things! It's fun and very busy, busy!

The students and families in our area are fantastic. Contrary, to what you might imagine, though, just like other places in our society, we do see all kinds of problems at Jeremy Ranch. We constantly have new students moving here from all over the country and occasionally from places around the globe. About twelve percent of our students are English Language learners. It's an exciting challenge to make sure all the students are comfortable, safe, productive, loving learning, making friends and progressing towards their goals!
